Well...after about 1 month of spreadsheet data entry, I've given up on keeping up with every single expense for each day.  It's just a bit much work for a holiday you know :)

But here's what we've found out and what the average expenses are and expectations for folks can be.

All these expenses include 2 people.

Hotel: $8-15 per night, depending on your level of luxury.  Ours has avg. right around $12 per night

Food: about $25 per day will feed two people easily.  This is probably a little high for most travellers actually.  This includes alcohol and beer too.

Tickets/Travel: average another $6 per day whether you are on the move or not, this will cover the bus tickets and train tickets when you are.

Misc: massages, movies, etc: $4 per day avg

Stuff/gifts/shopping: sky is the limit here but maybe $5 per day for us averages out our spending and gift habits.

Total = about $50 per day for 2 people "all in", maybe closer to $55 or $60 if you're really living it up, taking Tours, cooking classes, learning to scuba, renting mopeds, drinking a lot and shopping a decent amount.  We'd like to see it closer to $45, but there's always something popping up we never seem to deny ourselves :)
It's amazing inexpensive and this is legit information and worth planning a trip around this data.

This does not include your major airline tickets, those average out better obviously the longer we stay gone.
